Summertime Sports, Parasailing and Jetskiing
Posted on July 18th, 2011 No comments
Parasailing and jet skiing on Maui are two primarily summertime sports. The main reason for this is that our beautiful friends, the humpback whales are in Alaska from May through November.Prepare to fly high over Lahaina either together in a couple or separately from 400 to 800 astounding feet high. Imagine Haleakala, now imagine flying above the ocean 1/12th as high! Insane! But perfectly safe as well.
Jet skiing on Maui is like jet skiing anywhere in the world, except your on Maui the favorite island in the entire world of many travel groups and magazines. If your 18 or over you can race alone on your ski, go as fast as you can! Race your friends and family! If your over 15 you can drive your guardian around and scare the pants off em. If your younger than 15 your going to have to settle for being the passenger, still incredible fun, “FASTER DAD!”. (Of course they will give you safety instructions on scene.)At Hawaii Discount Activities you can find four fantastic Parasail and Jet Ski activities on Maui. Be prepared for tons of fun and wear plenty of Sunscreen and a bathing suit. Chances are your gonna get wet.

Haleakala – House of the Sun
Posted on July 1st, 2011 No commentsHaleakala is the largest dormant volcano on the earth, from its base below the sea to its height it is not the highest mountain on the earth but it is one of the tallest. Only Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii are taller. Haleakala tops Mount Everest from base to top by 675 odd feet! The drive to the top is one of the steepest vehicular ascents in the world to 10,000 feet from sea level.
World famous for the rare Silversword plant, awe inspiring sunrises and incredible geology, Haleakala is a place of wonder that has so much to do and so much to see. Hiking in the 11 kilometer double erosion basin is recommended for anyone fit enough to endure the rugged terrain and sparse amenities. The National Park Service maintains 3 cabins for visitors and 2 campgrounds. There are horse back rides and you can also day hike down the Sliding Sands trail and up the ‘Switchbacks’ but be sure your in shape, even the day hike is a 9 mile doozy with 2.9 miles up steep switchbacks.
Wait a second now, hiking is not all that’s in store on Haleakala, no there’s inspiration and awe for everyone, not just the rugged hikers. The sunrise at Haleakala’s peak is world famous and there are tours to take you to see it. Also exceedingly popular are the biking tours which bring you into the park for sunrise (or later if your not that eager to get up at 2 or 3 am.) and then drive just outside the park to bike the rest of the way down to Kula, Makawao or even sea level in Paia. Check out some of these great Haleakala Bike Tours right here through the links right here! If you solo rent a bikee sure to stop at Kula Lodge on the way down for a hot meal and a warm atmosphere with a great view. And remember, whatever way you enjoy Haleakala, is the right way, being one of the biggest mountains on earth has advantages after all, including the ability to please everyone.
